Markets in Gloucestershire & The Cotswolds For Local Food
There are a variety of markets in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds. Some are daily; others are less frequent. They sell a range of food, including locally grown or produced food; others specialise in arts & crafts or clothing. Some markets are great for good-value produce; others specialise in locally produced foods. I love to peruse a food market to find unusual ingredients that are rarely sold in the big four supermarkets.
Markets & Farm Shops in Gloucestershire & The Cotswolds
Gloucestershire has a variety of food and other markets, including static ones, weekly farmers’ markets, and farm shops.
Eastgate Market in Gloucester
In the centre of Gloucester, the Eastgate Market has many stalls open daily from Monday to Saturday. This one has a wonderful choice of stalls inside and also a cafe to enjoy lunch;
- Meat – Choices of butchers selling meat and meat products.
- Polish – A Polish stall selling many Polish specialities, including bread and cakes.
- Olives – Olives and all things Greek at Athena Olives; they also sell an array of herbs and spices.
- Fish – A few fishmongers sell fresh fish daily, including shellfish, seafood and some river fish. I recently noticed some selling trays for £10, including sea bass, a real bargain.
For opening times, a map and more information, see the Eastgate Market website.

In the picturesque marketplace in the centre of Cirencester, many stalls are open. They host various markets in the town square and sell a variety of products. Produce for sale includes locally brewed beer, pies, chocolate brownies, game meats, poultry, fruits, and vegetables. Stalls also sell street food, including Italian food and hot drinks. The schedule includes two farmers’ markets each month on the 2nd and 4th Saturday. These sell locally produced food from all across the Cotswolds. You can find out the schedule on the town’s website.
Gloucester Farmers Market

At the cross every Friday is the Gloucester Farmers Market, a wonderful place to purchase locally produced food. You can buy locally cultivated seasonal vegetables, fresh eggs, and meat, including game. They also have stalls for cheese, bread, cakes and more. It’s not the biggest market, but it’s handy if visiting Gloucester.
Dursley Farmers Market
Dursley Farmers Market is a lovely market in the centre of town, underneath the pretty town hall building. This market sells local produce from local farmers and food producers. They hold the Dursley market once a month between March and December on the second Saturday of the month. It’s open from 8.30 am to 1 pm.

They have a decent range of stalls, including those supplying fruit, vegetables, eggs, baked goods, cheeses and more. They also have a few stalls selling preserves and honey for those with a sweet tooth.
Coleford Country Market
Coleford Country Market holds markets every Friday and Saturday in Coleford by the clock tower. Friday markets run from 9.30 am to 12 pm, and Saturday markets run from 10 am to 12 pm. The market sells locally produced and locally grown foods; thus, there are some interesting options. In the Coleford market, they sell honey, home-grown fruit, vegetables and in-season fruit. They also have stalls selling an excellent choice of preserves, cakes, biscuits, sweet and savoury pies and bread.
